Laugh my face off!

If you like to smile and love to laugh you’ll find plenty to fill your time with at Verge. We’ve got improv, stand-up, one man shows, special debut performances and sneak previews of Fringe shows coming your way, so make sure to mosey along to Verge’s funniest events!

1. The Best Damn Comedy Night Ever

With a collective achievement list longer than your torso (even you, Lenny Long-Torso) this event features some of the best comedians in the world storming the Manning stage. After the best Sydney comedians there are take the stage, we end the night with Canadian superstar Jon Dore (years-long host of Canadian Idol, star of The Jon Dore Television Show, first standup guest invited on Conan) and Australian comedy legend Greg Fleet (Triple M, The Footy Show, Thai Die). This is the big one, boys.

2. Theatresports Up Late

Theatresports is a Sydney Uni institution. It’s given birth to The Chaser, The Axis of Awesome, and countless stars of film and screen: tonight, for one night only, we’re calling in favours and bringing the best of the best back for one last night of glory. The funniest thing on campus just got later, better and heartier: with the theatresports vibe you love and no lectures or tutes to miss, this is set to be the merriest Christmas in early September you’ve ever had.

3. Story Club

Returning to Verge following its very successful season at the Sydney Comedy Festival, Story Club is set to bring the live storytelling that’s taken the Sydney comedy scene by storm back to the Verge Tent. Hosted by 2011 NSW RAW Comedy Finalist Alex Lee, featuring the cream of Sydney’s creative crop and topped off with a story from Verge veteran and childhood-definer Benita Collings, this is one event that’s not to be missed.

4. I Like Being Conscious

A show about consciousness from 2011 NSW RAW Comedy Finalist Cyrus Bezyan, this one-man show is set to make you question whether being conscious is such a great thing before settling firmly on “yes, yes it is. Of course it is, why would you think that?” A Sydney Fringe Festival preview, this is your chance to see the cogs in Cyrus’ mind at work as they churn from joke to joke, adamant on producing the best show possible. Mixing sleep deprivation, his already surreal take on the world and a fascination with animals, this is set to be a highlight of everyone’s day.

5. Injection Room

The Injection Room team transforms their venue, working within a distinct theme (itself a closely guarded secret), completely changing their set into an office space, a deserted island, a space station, whatever, then introduces performers into it for 20 minutes at a time to piece together the story that comes to mind. First introduced at Verge in 2003, the 2011 Injection Room returns with a vengeance and caps off the glorious run of the Wine Cellar, leaving the space completely changed and definitely full of good cheer and laughter.
